Sustainable Features
Sustainable construction requires consideration of not just the effects on the environment, but also considers, the commercial impact on your pocket and the social impact that our development will have on the local community.
As well as the standard features that are offered on every Colain Home, the following sustainable design features are incorporated into our developments wherever possible:
- Use of FSC Certified Timber
- Insulation over and above the minimum requirements
- Responsible Construction
We also offer our customers further green options which they can add to their home to help the environment and their pockets.
FSC Timber
All timber used in the building of your new home will be certified by the Forestry Stewardship Council. This ensures that timber used is taken from a certified responsibly managed forest.
Forest management certification involves an inspection of the forest management unit by an independent FSC-accredited certification body to check that the forest complies with the internationally-agreed FSC Principles of Responsible Forest Management.
If the forest complies with FSC standards, then the FSC accredited certification body issues a certificate for the operation. Certified forest operations can claim the forest products they produce come from a responsibly managed forest.

Insulation
Insulating your new home is one of the most effective ways of improving the energy efficiency of your home. For example, the insulation installed in you new Colain loft alone can save around £110 and just under one tonne of carbon dioxide a year.
Colain Homes ensure all of their developments are fully insulated to minimise the effect on the environment and your pocket.
Responsible Construction
Colain Homes ask that all of the builders they employ follow strict guidelines on recycling construction waste. Colain Homes ensure that all of their developments have as little an impact on the local community as possible. Wherever possible, we will also ensure that local builders, designers and suppliers are given an opportunity to get involved in our developments, thus ensuring that the local community also benefits.
